For her New Year’s Eve special with Dolly Parton, Cyrus consulted the Versace and Bob Mackie archives.
Miley Cyrus bid farewell to 2022 in style—specifically, in retro Versace and Bob Mackie fashion. The singer dressed in a variety of vintage high-fashion ensembles for the occasion as she headlined Miley’s New Years Eve Party, her second annual NBC live special.
The New Year’s Eve party featured performances by Sia, Paris Hilton, the rock band Liily, whose drummer is Cyrus’s boyfriend Maxx Morando, as well as several musical pieces by Miley and Dolly herself. It was co-hosted by country music legend and Miley Cyrus’s godmother, Dolly Parton.
But for the party in the U.S.A., it’s Cyrus’ glitzy appearance that we can’t stop thinking about and won’t stop (sorry again). The musician and Hollywood offspring, who has donned everything from metallic nipple-shielding suspenders to flesh-toned latex underwear and studded moto jackets, displayed a far more refined side than usual for the December 31 event.
For the NYE event, Cyrus largely wore vintage clothing, but she opened alongside Parton in matching custom Gucci.
The “Wrecking Ball” singer sang Paris Hilton’s now-iconic 2006 hit “Stars Are Blind” alongside Sia and Paris herself while wearing a pastel halter dress from Versace’s Spring 2005 collection. The slinky dress with its plunging neckline and ruched details was ideal for a retro performance with the reality TV star from the early aughts.
This one-shoulder dress from Bob Mackie, the creator of so many iconic Cher looks, was possibly the most notable of her several costume changes. The multicoloured iridescent beaded mini, which was taken from a 2002 collection, was the perfect cocktail dress for welcoming in a new year.
Cyrus wore two more vintage Versace ensembles, one of which was the goddess gown shown above. The mint and orange sorbet dress from Versace’s Spring 2006 line had a cape design that extended down the single-shoulder strap and an extremely high slit.
The former Hannah Montana star opted for a two-piece Versace ensemble with a ruffled patchwork skirt and matching exaggerated sleeves for a more fun look.
For all the costumes, Cyrus maintained the same funky beauty attitude, complete with a centre part, blonde waves that nearly seemed crimped, and sparkling makeup. And while some of the outfits felt like style leaps for the 30-year-old, the singer frequently reinvents her music and style, so it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. After all, she’s just being Miley.
