MANILA, Philippines — The news that Grammy-winning R&B artist Ne-Yo will be performing his best and most recent hits when he returns to the Philippines in January of next year was met with some criticism.
The initial performance date of January 23 has been changed to include an additional show at 6:00 p.m. due to high demand, according to promoter Wilbros Live.
Tickets for the concert’s 8:00 p.m. start time. Having already sold out, they will now take place at 9:00 p.m. At ten in the morning on October 23, tickets for the new time slot went on sale.
Ne-Yo played at Araneta Coliseum on his first visit to Manila in 2008 for both of these performances.
While many fans applauded the inclusion of a second event, some felt it was unjust to move people who had already purchased tickets to a later date and to put them in second place for seeing Ne-Yo.
Some Facebook users commented on Wilbros Live’s Facebook post announcing the performance addition with phrases like “This is terrible!! Nakakabastos to ah” and recommended people who had already bought tickets should have the ability to swap schedules.
Others pointed out that Ne-Yo himself would get tired from doing back-to-back gigs, therefore it would be better to have it on a later date. Some people were worried about how the foot traffic and logistics in between sets would be managed.
Comparisons were made to a Westlife event where a second show was added the day before the scheduled performance, forcing ticket holders to watch at a later time.
Wilbros Live has not yet responded to Philstar.com’s request for comments on the revised performance itinerary.
The songs “Let Me Love You,” “Miss Independent,” “Closer,” “Because of You,” “Go On Girl,” “Mad,” “Sexy Love,” “Beautiful Monster,” and “One in a Million” by Ne-Yo are among his best-known songs.
Alongside former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland, he made his last trip to the Philippines for the 2015 “Concert of Dreams” at City of Dreams, which served to formally launch the hotel-resort and gaming complex.
